ssyoutube is a free online YouTube video downloader that works right in your browser. Paste the link of any public YouTube video, tap Download, and you get a list of the MP4 files YouTube has for it – from a light 144p file to a sharp 1080p, plus 1440p or 4K when YouTube offers them as MP4. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
We built it for the way most people in India watch YouTube: on a phone, often on mobile data. The page is small, opens quickly even on a weak 4G signal and works the same on iPhone, Android, tablets and laptops, in the browser you already use – Chrome, Safari, Samsung Internet, Firefox or Edge.
Save a recipe to follow in the kitchen, keep a lecture for the train ride home or back up the videos from your own channel – a YT video download here takes about as long as copying a link. The same box takes regular videos, Shorts and youtu.be links, so one bookmark is all you need.

Why use ssyoutube
-
Free, with no sign-up
Every feature is free. You don't need an account, an email address or a subscription.
-
No app to install
It runs in your browser, so it takes no storage space and asks for no permissions.
-
HD quality when available
See each MP4 quality YouTube offers for the video: 144p up to 1080p, and 1440p or 4K when YouTube offers them as MP4.
-
Clear sound labels
A speaker icon with a line through it marks files without audio, so you know which download has sound before you tap.
-
Easy on mobile data
The page is tiny and the 360p file is small – handy when you are counting every MB of a daily data pack.
-
Straight from YouTube
The download link points directly to YouTube's own video servers. We don't re-encode the video, add a watermark or keep a copy.
Which quality should you choose?
The first file in the list (usually 360p) is the only one that contains both picture and sound – it is the only row without a mute icon. YouTube still provides this classic format as a single file, so pick it for songs, talks, tutorials and anything else you want to hear. It also plays on practically every phone, TV and laptop.
All the other options – 1080p, 720p, 480p and, when YouTube offers them as MP4, 1440p or 4K – are video-only. YouTube keeps the picture and sound of HD video in separate streams, so these rows (marked with a muted speaker icon) give you the picture alone: fine for editing projects, presentations or footage you'll set your own music to. Some of the sharpest rows use the newer AV1 codec, which older phones and TVs may not play – if a file won't open, choose 720p or lower.
A quick rule: need sound? Choose the first file, the row without the mute icon. Want the sharpest picture and will add audio yourself? Choose the highest number. On a limited data plan, 360p is the best balance – just a few megabytes per minute of video.
How to save a YouTube video to your gallery
On Android: when the video opens in a new Chrome tab, tap the three dots (⋮) on the player and choose Download. The file goes to your Download folder and usually shows up in Gallery, Google Photos or the Files app within seconds.
On iPhone and iPad: in Safari, press and hold the Download button and choose Download Linked File. Then open the Files app, go to Downloads, open the video, tap Share and choose Save Video to add it to Photos.
On Windows, Mac and Linux: click the three dots (⋮) in the corner of the player and choose Download, or right-click the video and choose Save video as. The file lands in your Downloads folder.
A faster way: change the address
Watching on a computer? In the address bar, replace www.youtube.com with ssyoutube.live and press Enter: youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID becomes ssyoutube.live/watch?v=VIDEO_ID and the download list starts loading. Shorts links work the same way.
Make sure the new address ends in .live – typing only "ss" in front of youtube.com takes you to a different website that has nothing to do with us.
Frequently asked questions
Is ssyoutube free to use?
Yes. Looking up a video and downloading any of the listed files is completely free. There is no trial, no premium plan and no sign-up.
Do I need to install an app or browser extension?
No. ssyoutube is a website that works in the browser you already have. We don't publish any app, so be careful with apps that use our name.
Why does only the first option have sound?
YouTube delivers HD video as separate picture and audio streams. The first MP4 in the list (usually 360p) is the one format it still offers with both in a single file; every other row is picture only and shows a muted speaker icon.
What is the highest quality I can download?
Whatever YouTube offers as MP4 for that video. Most videos go up to 1080p, and some offer 1440p or 4K (2160p). The list shows only the qualities that exist for that video.
Why does the video open in a new tab instead of downloading?
The Download button links straight to the video file on YouTube's servers, and browsers play a video file when you open it. To keep it, use the player's ⋮ menu and choose Download, or on iPhone long-press the button and choose Download Linked File.
Where do downloaded videos go on my phone?
On Android, in the Download folder; they normally appear in Gallery or Google Photos too. On iPhone, Safari saves them in Files under Downloads, and Share then Save Video moves one to Photos.
Can I download private, age-restricted or live videos?
No. We can only fetch videos that anyone can watch without signing in. Private, members-only and age-restricted videos aren't supported, and live streams can't be saved while they are on air – try again after the stream ends and the replay is published.
The download link stopped working. What should I do?
Download links from YouTube expire after a few hours. If the page has been open for a while, tap Download again and we fetch fresh links first – or simply paste the video link once more.
Is it legal to download YouTube videos?
It depends on the video and how you use it. YouTube's terms allow downloads only where YouTube offers them or the rights holder agrees. Download only videos you own, videos with a licence that allows it (such as Creative Commons) or videos you have permission to use, and never re-upload or sell someone else's work.
Is ssyoutube part of YouTube?
No. ssyoutube is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube or Google.
